More than 1,100 AI workers ask Washington to build a way to slow AI down
Over 1,100 employees at OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind and Meta signed a joint statement called “Pacing the Frontier,” asking the US government to help build technical and governance tools that could deliberately slow frontier AI development if it ever advances faster than humans can safely oversee. Signatories include Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei and OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki, and both companies endorsed the statement within hours. The letter is explicit that it is not calling for a pause today, only that the option exist.
