OpenAI opens Health in ChatGPT to all US users, a day after a lawsuit over medical advice

OpenAI announced on July 23, 2026 that it is rolling out Health in ChatGPT to all logged in US users aged 18 and older, across its Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, on web and iOS. The feature lets users securely connect Apple Health, MyFitnessPal and Function, along with medical records systems including Epic, Oracle Health and One Medical, so ChatGPT can incorporate a person's actual health history, lab results and tracked metrics into ongoing conversations rather than treating each question in isolation. OpenAI said health related queries have grown to more than 300 million a week, up from roughly 230 million during an earlier internal test in January, and that its newer GPT 5.6 Luna model outperforms its predecessor on HealthBench, an internal evaluation of medical question answering. The rollout arrived one day after a Florida pastor filed a lawsuit alleging ChatGPT provided a near fatal suggestion not to consult a doctor, and internal data cited by OpenAI shows roughly 70 percent of health related queries happen outside any dedicated health interface, meaning most people are already asking ChatGPT medical questions informally. OpenAI maintains in its terms of service that its products are ‘not intended for the diagnosis or treatment of any health condition’ and continues to direct users toward professional medical care, a disclaimer that sits uneasily alongside a feature explicitly built to give ChatGPT deeper access to a user's personal medical data.
