Music streaming service Deezer said more than half of the tracks uploaded to its platform on a daily basis are now AI generated, according to TechCrunch, with more than 90,000 AI generated tracks uploaded per day as of June. The figure marks a sharp escalation in how quickly AI generated music has moved from a novelty into the dominant category of new daily uploads on at least one major streaming platform, and adds urgency to a debate streaming services have been having for months over how to detect, label, and in some cases compensate differently for AI generated content mixed into catalogs originally built around human made recordings. Deezer has previously rolled out AI detection tools flagging suspected AI generated tracks to help listeners and rights holders distinguish them from human made music, but the new figure suggests those tools are now confronting a genuinely different scale of problem than when they were first introduced, when AI generated uploads were a small fraction of daily volume rather than a majority.
