Perplexity Brings Its ‘Personal Computer’ AI Agent to Windows

Perplexity’s Personal Computer agent launched on Windows this week, extending a tool the company first built for Mac to a vastly larger install base. Described by Perplexity as a general-purpose digital worker, the agent can access a user’s authorized files and applications to create or edit Word documents, update Excel spreadsheets, organize folders, research a topic across the web, and stitch together workflows that touch several different programs in sequence rather than requiring a person to manage each step manually. The Windows version integrates directly into Microsoft 365 apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, and adds a live task-tracking context panel along with usage analytics so users can watch the agent’s progress and see its sourcing as it works. The rollout is starting with paying Max and Enterprise Max subscribers before a broader release. The move follows a strategic pivot at Perplexity, which walked away from advertising earlier in the year and has instead pushed hard into agentic products aimed at enterprise workflows, a shift the company credits with driving its annualized revenue past $450 million, up sharply from where it stood a year earlier.
