Claude Fable 5's free access window for paid plans closes tonight

Anthropic's promotional window allowing free access to Claude Fable 5 for subscribers on paid plans closes at 11:59 PM Pacific time tonight, marking the second time the company has pushed back the original deadline since Fable 5 first returned to subscription plans. The free access, available to Claude Pro, Max, and Team subscribers and covering up to 50 percent of a plan's normal weekly usage limits, was initially set to expire July 7, then extended to July 12, and now closes for good on July 19. After tonight, subscribers who want to keep using Fable 5 will need to draw on separately billed usage credits rather than their standard plan allowance, or switch to another Claude model and continue working within their existing plan limits at no extra charge. Anthropic has not offered a detailed public explanation for the repeated extensions, though the pattern has coincided with major competing model launches from rivals, including OpenAI's GPT 5.6 Sol reaching general availability and, most recently, Moonshot's Kimi K3, both of which have intensified pressure on Anthropic to keep its most capable model easily accessible to paying subscribers rather than gating it behind additional charges. Tonight's deadline is the clearest sign yet that Anthropic intends this extension to be final rather than another temporary reprieve.
